I have been having a really hard time with Ellie's lunch diet. She wants everything cooked...noodles, soup, quesadillas, chicken nuggets, etc. I need to be able to fix her a quick lunch. A sandwich would be so nice to fix when we are having a picnic or we are on the go. So, I have her in training. We started out with bread and butter. Then, we graduated to bread, butter and jam. Then, we started putting a "top" on the bread, butter and jam and made, yes, a sandwich! My next goal will be to try out lunch meat! Here are some pictures of a fun lunch I made for the kids with homemade bread and some fun shapes. I am not very crafty, so I was pretty proud of myself for this one!
Our little Levi turned 2! His birthday was back on April 21st. He is such a joy to have in our family. He is very verbal, so he comes up with all kinds of funny things to say and do. He loves to make funny faces and his most recent talent is singing songs. I went to get him out of bed this afternoon but I waited outside his door so I could listen to him singing away in his bed. He is so cute. I made him a monkey cake for his birthday (thanks, Amber). It turned out really cute, but I felt bad making it because I basically neglected the birthday boy for over 3 hours while putting it together. I made things even more difficult by putting ice cream in the center. Levi stood on a stool in the kitchen while I frosted the cake. I had to laugh when I finished one side of the cake only to look up and notice that Levi had licked off the other side. I guess it gave the cake some character...but I repaired it.
Here are the kids enjoying the birthday breakfast...cinnamon rolls.
Levi opening a present from Grandma Beckstrand. I asked Grandma to get him some farm animals for his new barn. When I asked Levi what he wanted for his birthday, he said a "barbie". Yes, he loves barbie dolls, babies and ponies. Can you tell what companion he has throughout the day? He also loves horses and farms. I opted for the farm! :) Thanks Grandma Keller for the fun tent/tunnel system as well!
Oh, I have to add a few pictures in from Caleb's final football game. No, they never won a game. However, as you look at the picture with the trophies...it didn't really matter. The trophies and the Krispy Cream doughnuts made all the difference! Caleb had fun, but I think he is glad the season is over.
Have you ever seen a "bobblehead" trophy? I thought it was pretty funny. Caleb thought it was "way cool".
OK, one more final, random picture to throw into the mix. I felt like I had traveled back in time and had become my mother when I had to help Caleb with a science project for school. This was a parent/child project on a bug of their choice. Well, Chris called it, "mom's project". I had to research the "stag beetle" on the internet and find at least four pictures. That was my part. Caleb did do all the cutting, pasting, and writing. I just had to sit there for hours and multiple "breaks" while he did his part of the project. He would write one paragraph and start crying because it was "too hard". Ohhhhhh!!!!! Thank you mom for all of your help with the book reports, posters, dioramas, etc. When I asked Caleb what his teacher and classmates said about his project...he just said....nothing. What?! I had to pry to get it out of him that his teacher did say that it was interesting that the stag beetle keeps forests healthy by helping the dead trees to decompose. OK, I guess that was going to have to be good enough.
Here is the poster. I have to get some praise for my work!
